This is the title of this blog post - a long one! I chose to convey and begin to convince you that we are all Heroes. Heroes inside our lives as we live them.
Among us, what does a hero look like?
The following descriptors are what makes a hero stand out for me
A person (either gender) who sees a serious problem and steps up to take care of it, even when there’s danger involved and even if the issue does not personally involve them.
One who moves through life noticing what goes on around them. In a crowd, s/he notices individuals and reacts, subtly and with the other’s viewpoint in mind.
In nature, all is noticed - the trees, the clouds, the surface of the river ruffling gently in the breeze. A heightened awareness that brings attention quickly to anything amiss such as a child straying too close to the water
The hero’s temperament is focused on others, not self.
A hero doesn’t worry about what they don’t have. The Hero lives in a world where wants can wait. Appreciation for what they have, rather than anger at what don’t have, fills the soul.
If there is a wrong, the focus is not on revenge, but rather forgiveness.
Physical fitness is part and parcel of this person., as physical strength, endurance and dexterity is this job’s requirement.
Confident, but never cocky, always standing up straight and looking others in the eye
My version of hero doesn’t think about sincerity, living it is the thing. And s/he smiles at all. Not to show off personal greatness, but to show appreciation of all. No need for small talk, just too busy responding to those around.
What does a hero look like? A smartly dressed individual nicely built with a smile that comes from within. The rest—age, race, hair or eye colour, assorted features—don’t matter. S/He looks like who s/he is: a person who thinks of others before self.
The recipe: some-one who’s content. S/He’s the one likely to act when there’s trouble. S/He’s the real hero
And further, all of us have individual superpowers - this is the vision, the persona most of us wish to be known for and to use.
When I look around and actually search - I find out about heroes - in the conventional sense but very little about superpowers we all possess and superheroes’ way of life. The personal attribute we all have is audaciousness and when we put audaciousness to work in our own life then there is room for the inherent superhero attribute to show up.
To me, a Superhero is someone who invites her/his wisest, bravest, most alive self to come out and play, every day.
What it means to be a SUPERHERO — in my world, it’s got nothing to do with capes, spandex or sidekicks and everything to do with tenderness, intuition & baby steps practicing bravery.
This doesn’t mean having all the answers, being unshakeably strong, or performing dramatic feats of heroism. It means being someone like you – and someone like me. Someone who is anxious and uncertain, oh, say, 50 – 80% of the time. Someone who wants to live a juicy, full, audacious life — but doesn’t always know how.
There are some who appreciate that vulnerability just might be the greatest superpower of all.
